FTL Transcodes, New Mobile Experience, and More!

2017 has already been an incredibly exciting year for Beam, and it's not over yet; we can't wait for you to see what's yet to come.

Today, we're excited to announce a few of the many new features we've been working on: offline channel images, FTL transcodes, a new mobile website, and Xbox toasts.

Offline Channel Images

We know broadcasters want more ways to customize their channel page, as our current solid blue offline state is pretty bland. You wanted it, and we listened: broadcasters can now upload a custom background to be shown on their channel page when offline!

FTL Transcodes Beta

FTL is our low-latency streaming protocol that allows for sub-second stream delay. All broadcasters have quality options on Beam, but until now, you had to switch to a mode with additional delay to access them.

Starting now, all viewers will be able to select from several different quality options when watching FTL broadcasts on Beam Partner channels! This is an initial beta rollout - we're collecting feedback, and will continue to expand transcodes to more channels soon.

New Mobile Experience

The Beam experience on mobile devices is a huge focus for us. We've been rolling out updates to the native iOS and Android apps (with more to come!), but we felt our friends on our mobile website (Windows 10 Mobile users, for example) needed some love, too.

Our new mobile website rolled out, and it feels like the app, with chat, interactive, and all the other channel features you'd expect from Beam. Try using chat and interactive controls when overlaid on the video in landscape mode, too!

Xbox Toasts

As we continue to integrate with Xbox Live and other Microsoft services, there are more ways than ever to reach your audience and to know when your favorite broadcasters are online.

Broadcasters, your Beam channel followers on Xbox One will now know when you're broadcasting, and viewers, you'll know when broadcasters you follow go live, all with new Beam toasts on Xbox!

Be sure to link your Beam account to your Microsoft account to start using Xbox toasts and to take advantage of the other benefits of Xbox Live integration!

Interactive 2.0

Interactive 2.0 is the start of the next generation of broadcasting on Beam. We've spent the last month working closely with Partners and community developers to polish our Interactive 2.0 experience, and it's finally time to unveil it to the world!

If you missed our announcement about the Interactive 2.0 release earlier this week, get caught up here.
